Crashing A Date
Orpheus is always one up for visiting every single stall there is at the faire. After all, that’s what they’re there for, right? For one to check them out, of course!
Eurydice seems just as excited as he is to be here, if the light skip in her steps aren’t obvious enough. The vulorro looks around, observing the crowd of cossetlings walking all around her. Some of them seem to be all dolled up for the occasion, which has the vulorro’s eyes sparkling in with interest and curiosity.
“Having fun people-watching?” Orpheus’s voice catches the vulorro’s attention, which has her chittering in response. He laughs gleefully as she twirls enthusiastically.
“There’s a lot of things to do here…” Orpheus hums, looking around and debating in his mind which stall or attraction he should visit first. “See anything that catches your eye, Eurydice?”
The vulorro tilts her head at the mention of her name, turning to take another quick look around before yipping and running towards a cotton candy stall. She doesn’t even need to turn and check to know that Orpheus is following right behind her, knowing that he’d never abandon her on her own.
“Welcome, chap! Are ye lookin’ fer cotton candy?” The stall owner’s overly friendly voice booms.
Orpheus lowers his head to stare at Eurydice, who beams right up at him, tail wagging and all. He lets out a little chuckle, then turns back to the stall owner. “Yup! Not for me, but for the lady right here.”
He gestures to the floor, which has the stall owner leaning over his stall to peer, only for a hearty laugh to escape him when he realizes that it’s a herald!
“I hear ye. One cotton candy comin’ right up!”
The whirring of the cotton candy machine being turned up can be heard, followed up with the sound of a spoonful of sugar hitting the metal as the stall owner drops it into the center. Then… Whrr!! Flossy threads fly up into the air, spun, then gathered up on a stick and made into the shape of a flower resembling that of Orpheus and Eurydice’s.
“Here ye go, chap!” A blue cotton-candy shaped like a cornflower is handed back to Orpheus with a smile. “A flower for ye lady!”
Amused, Orpheus quietly thanks and pays the stall owner for the cotton candy. He admires the work made on this. Eurydice looks about ready to devour all of it, too, but…
“Let's find someplace nice to sit and enjoy this, yeah?” Orpheus suggests, earning a little pouty stomp from the vulorro. Cute.
Orpheus looks around. While trying to look for a place to sit, his eyes seem to wander towards a particularly large, very round attraction that’s unmissable by anyone attending the faire.
“Hey, Eurydice.” Orpheus nudges at his pouting vulorro with his foot, catching her attention before pointing at the ferris wheel. “Wanna get on that? I heard the view up there’s pretty neat.”
Eurydice’s eyes follow the direction of Orpheus’s pointing finger, her head tilting to one side in consideration. She leaps onto her feet and yips, a sign of approval.
However, there’s a problem…
When the two get closer to the attraction, they belatedly realize that the queue seems to be… pretty long…
Shoot. “This is gonna take longer than just finding a seat somewhere…” Orpheus grumbles.
Just as he’s about to give up, Eurydice’s ears perk. From his point of view, something has caught the vulorro’s attention, causing her to dash off all of a sudden. He gasps in surprise, swiveling around to run after Eurydice with a panicked yell of, “Eurydice, where are you going?!”
Orpheus can hear the sound of cossetlings complaining and grumbling as he cuts through the queue to chase after Eurydice. He lets out an awkward smile, mumbling “sorry, sorry–” but still not stopping. Before he even knows it, he finds himself standing at the front of the line, right behind two very, very familiar faces.
“Orpheus?” A cream colored-haired cossetling pipes up, sounding a little confused. “What… are you doing?”
The white-haired cossetling next to him is smiling, but her stare seems… a little cold. However, that demeanor changes immediately when she sees Eurydice pawing at her hoof, which immediately brightens her up.
“Aww, cutie!!” Caduceus chirps, bending down to pick up the vulorro and cradling it in her arms. Eurydice yips, raising her paw to bop at her cheek and earning herself a squeal out of Caduceus.
Orpheus, on the other hand, only laughs awkwardly. “Hey, Snow, Caddy… Sorry, I was uh… Queueing back there and was boutta leave but I guess Eurydice saw you and, well…” He gestures at the vulorro, who’s being smothered in kisses by Caduceus.
Snow is quiet for a little, before he slowly nods in understanding. “I see…” He then glances behind him at the worker that’s signaling for them to get on the car, their little encounter having stopped the queue.
“Hm… We should get in first, we can talk about this later.” He looks over at his date, who’s still rubbing her face into the vulorro’s stomach. “Are you good with that, Caddy?”
If Caduceus was bothered by their sudden appearance before, she sure isn’t now, especially with her new herald friend! “Mhm! That’s fine!”
Snow lets out a small smile, enamored by his partner before reaching over to hold her free hand, tugging her gently into the open car. “Are you coming?” He peeks out of the open door to stare at Orpheus, who awkwardly climbs into the car as well.
He jolts when the ferris wheel starts to move, the car swaying a little as they’re lifted higher into the air.
“So, uh…” Orpheus starts, clearing his throat. “Were we bothering you?”
“Yeah,” Snow answers, straightforwardly.
This makes him feel a little guilty. “Sorry…”
Snow looks over at Caduceus, who finally puts Eurydice down on her lap and starts to pet her instead. She glances back at him and smiles.
“It’s okay.” Snow finally answers, shaking his head. “But it doesn’t seem like you’ll be getting your herald back anytime soon.”
Orpheus blinks, then glances over at Eurydice. She stares right back at him, then shrugs. Well… She doesn’t seem to mind.
“It’s punishment for interrupting our date,” Caduceus finally speaks up, tilting her weight to one side and leans against snow. “And you gotta treat us to snacks!”
“Huh?” Orpheus blinks again, then sighs. “Fine, fine…”
At least everything seemed to work out in the end…? He thinks as he holds out the cotton candy in his hand towards Eurydice. He looks out of the window then. From this height, he can see the entirety of the faire… Every single stall, every single attraction.
How beautiful.
He lets out a little laugh, then shakes his head. Well, he supposes this is fine.
