Farmers Market
It was early morning at Nekros Manor and a very eager, and bouncy, cossetling stood near the entrance. Her bright mismatched eyes were firmly locked onto the adjacent hallway, as if she were expecting something… or someone. Her colorful tote bag nested tightly under her slim arms, seemingly empty. Moments passed but her excitement never faded. However she suddenly froze, her bouncing stopped and her fluffy ears perked up.
Click, click, click.
The fast pace of hooves on marble floors! Yes! She knew those impatience steps anywhere! Stepping into the entrance way was the tall and imposing figure that was Lady Mystrella. Upon seeing the short girl Lady gave a look of surprise but that quickly turned into an eyeroll.
“Ms. Paquin, you are early for once. How delightful.” Although her words seemed pleasant her tone was anything but. “I-it's Ms. Patches.” She weakly corrected, while she did have a ‘legal’ name she preferred the cute nickname given to her.
“And yes ma’am! I have been looking forward to going with you all week my lady!” Unable to contain her excitement she began to bounce on her hooves again. Lady sighed with annoyance. “Please be sure not to get under hoof, and remember your indoor voice dear.” She stepped past Ms. Patches and elegantly opened the door for her. ‘A true gentlelady!’ Ms. Patches thought to herself with pride.
As they scrolled down the cobblestoned road side by side Ms. Patches beamed a smile that put the sun to shame. All she could think about was…the farmers market!! She had been looking forward to seeing all the goodies for sale all week. Ever since she overheard the chef raved about all the deals and merch she knew she had to check it out.
She pictured mountains of assorted colors of threads, piles upon piles of ribbons and buttons. Oh so many lovely materials to craft and create with!
“May I just say that I’m surprised you wanted to help with the shopping today Ms. Paquin. I assumed it would be too boring of a task for you” She pouted at the name but brushed it off. “Well I heard all about the stuff you can buy! I even brought some of my savings!” Patting her empty tote, she gave a toothy grin. Lady gazed down at her with a raised brow.
“Your excitement is over the thought of buying fresh produce?” She had to stifle a laugh. Peasants really did find joy in the simplest of things.
Ms. Patches stopped in her tracks, her smile dropped. “Food? Is it only food?” Her heart sank as disappointment welled up in her chest.
“Why yes you silly girl. It is a market for farmers afterall. It’s too late to back out, lesson learned hm?” Lady cluckled as Ms. Patches dragged her hooves behind her. She had never felt such vase disappointment in her life. Her lip quivered into a hard pout and her large doe eyes glossed over. It was clear she was doing her best not to cry.
With a sign Lady Mystrella turned to her. “If we stopped by the general shop will you stop your pouting?” And with that all her sadness poofed and she eagerly followed after the grump cossetling.
Finding joy with writing again means alot. TToTT
